Skywild is coming to K&E

Summer Matters

Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships

Every kid deserves a summer camp experience. It’s why we partner with Mickey’s Kids and why Scott works so hard in Washington.

That’s something I’ve believed for a long time, and somehow the belief just keeps growing and growing every year.

Which makes me pumped for this announcement.

This summer, Skywild is running at K&E after our summer.

Skywild runs week-long overnight camps for autistic kids ages 7-15. They’ve been doing this in Michigan and Pennsylvania since 2010. This August, they’re bringing their program here for one week.

I’ve been working with some version of Skywild since 2014. Breezy, who runs Skywild, is my girlfriend. She’s the absolute best. And the work they do matters.

Skywild campers do everything you know from K&E. They climb the ropes course, shoot archery, go canoeing, tie-dye t-shirts, go fishing, roast s’mores, sing, dance, and swim. All of it.

The difference is how the program is structured. Daily schedules are highly predictable to ease camper anxiety.

Activities are flexible and choice-based. Staff ratios are kept intentionally low, about 2:1 camper-to-counselor. Plus, the Skywild leadership team rocks with behavior analysts, teachers, nurses, doctors, and youth development professionals.

The Details:

Dates: August 17-22, 2026

Cost: $2,500 (scholarships available)

Ages: 7-15

If you know kids with autism who are looking for the true-blue summer camp experience, we’d love to have them.

Breezy can answer any and all questions about the program and will definitely help families figure out if Skywild is a good fit.

PS - Let’s talk camp.

My favorite thing in the world, besides running camp, is talking to families about what camp will look like for your kids.

Summer Matters Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships Just doing a little back-of-the-dining-hall-napkin math on this. But the numbers seem right to me. 6.5 Weeks (46 days) 12 Hours a day (rounding down) 552 Total Hours Outside That's what a summer here looks like. Man, that's an impressive number. Could spend time talking about all the benefits of sunshine, and fresh air, and running around, and all of that. The stats are easy to find, easier to list, and would make my point...

Summer Matters Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships A few weeks ago, Jordan Cohen (unit leader) called me out of the blue. He’d been thinking about it for a while and had the whole thing worked out by the time we got on the phone. Cole, his cousin, was already signed up to run it with him, had a name for it, and both knew what mornings would actually look like. Fitness First. First period of the day for some Kenwood boys, run by the two of them. The format will move around...

Summer Matters Inspiring confident, kind kids & forever friendships Dr. Schott and Pam Schott had no idea what a playdate was. I mean, maybe they could have defined it if given some context. But it just wasn’t a thing. This was Rochester, New York, in the 90s. Dr. Schott (always Dr. Schott) had one cure for almost everything that sounded like a complaint: get outside and blow the stink off. That was the operating principle in the house. We were just kids. We went outside and came back later....
